Giosonas

On Chios you can find plenty of beautiful beaches, one of those is Giosonas – The name’s origin is the mythical hero of antiquity with the name Giasonas (engl. version: Jason). People say that this god passed the place during the Argonaut’s expedition on his quest to retrieve the Golden Fleece. The beach with smooth pebbles and crystal clear water seems to be endless. The waters are deep blue or green, depending on the light and the time of day. Giosonas opens wide to the Aegean Sea and offers a restful and relaxing holiday. The location is pretty quiet, with […]

Katarraktis

Situated at the East coast, Katarraktis is a fishermen village which is only 20 min. away from the capital of the Island. It is easily reachable by bus which is coming every half an hour from Chios City and back. Very special about this location is its traditional atmosphere: Charming small houses, narrow streets and the main promenade around the harbor invite to a pleasant walk through the picturesque locality. Visitors can enjoy fresh fish in one of the  tavernas that often have comfortable terraces close to the Aegean Sea with view on the shimmering water. In winter, there are […]

Spend some Quality-Time at Lithi Beach!

There is a very special location on Chios Island waiting for you – the wonderful beach of Lithi. It is located in a cove, on the western coast of the island. Its sand is soft and the clear blue water is mirror-like. The bay slopes very gently and would be absolutely perfect for children, especially those learning to swim or not yet confident in the sea. The beach has free sunshades and loungers, basic but perfectly adequate changing facilities, a fresh water shower and easy access to free wi-fi. The tiny seaside settlement behind the beach is famous for its […]

Didima Beach – beautiful and isolated

A picturesque and isolated place, perfect for relaxing and enjoying a calm summer day – that’s Didima beach. Didima translated from Greek to English means twins. And there is a simple reason, why the beach is called like that. It is because of the two small coves, separated by a rocky alluvium, that the beach consists of. They look very much alike – both offer white pebbles and crystal clear turquoise water! It s a very beautiful and not really touristy beach, because of its location 32 km southwest of Chios City far away from the busy coasts of the […]

Mavra Volia – A Must See!

Mavra Volia, also known as Mavros Gyalos, is unique and one of the most beautiful beaches on the island and definitely a magic place! It is located south-west, about 30 km away from the city of Chios and is near Emporios village. Because of the present volcano Psaronas’ eruption millions of years ago the stones of the beach are covered and colored black, as it is unprecedented anywhere else. This beach is the sum of three small beaches, each in its small bay. Thus, the peculiarity of the black, rounded, shiny pebbles, the steep rock that imposingly stands above […]

Kardamyla

The borough of Karadamyla is built on the site of ancient Kardamilis, 28 kilometers from the city of Chios. Giving around 2000 inhabitants a home the town is divided into two settlements. The houses have a deep traditional architecture: Narrow streets, curbstone alleys and covered passages are typical Greek features. The same accounts for the houses mainly built with stone and decorated with flowers and plants. The upper and older section is surrounding the steep hill, the lower village called Marmaro is located on the coast covered by a beautiful bay and around 2 kilometers  away from the old settlement. It has […]

Glari Beach

Somewhere on Chios Island between Vrontados and Sikliada there is a place with which you will fall in love at first sight. I am talking about the facinating Glari Beach (γλάρος in Greek means seagull)! Seagulls can find there a shelter during the winter – hence its name. Clear, blue water, sandy beach, trees for those who need a little bit shadow and amazing view are worth  to come here, even for a while. Blue-green water can be found there because of a water spring that comes from the mountain. During the summer season the beach-bar is working, so in […]
