Chios Island is particularly linked to North America because a lot of its inhabitants emigrated there between the 19th century and the 2nd World War.

In Mesta there is a street named “Οδός Μεστούσων Αμερικής”, which means “street of the American from Mesta”.

But there is a more subtle sign of this link, visible in the main place : there is a coffee with tables made from Singer sew machines. And guess what ? This company is American !
