Vrontados, Chios

Vrontados, Chios which is a smaller town with about 5300 inhabitants within Chios island , is today also known as a suburb of the capital Chios.

It is located on the east coast of Chios north of Chios City.
You have the opportunity to get an amazing view on the sea and it is possible to see Turkey as well.
The uncommon red lights of the Turkish windmills blinking at you at night might first scare you a little.
But after a while you will get used to it and appreciate it.
If you walk through Vrontados you will find mostly welcoming and friendly people who respond your greeting.
Furthermore there are many pets like cats and dogs but also few chickens, roosters and donkeys for instance.
Whether you are interested into culture you can visit a famous rock which the legendary poet Homer, according to the tradition has made use of back then in order to teach and sing.
This also gave the rock the name Daskalopetra, which means “teacher’s stone”.
If you are hungry you can either enter one of the available small shops or gather some fruits of trees instead.

Even though the inhabitants have a very positive attitude in general you still must take care.
At some point, if you exaggerate it through gathering too many fruits of trees which belong to the same garden, even they might react harsh.
To cool down there are a couple of opportunities to go swimming in the clear sea.

Usually the stone based beaches are kept clean. Further there is the possibility of changing clothes and having a shower.
Having the equipment it is also possible to climb one of the dry hills securing yourself a beautiful view above Vrontados.  If you do so you will for sure make acquaintance with the mountain goats.

Have fun exploring Vrontados on your own!
