In Chios City you can find an old traditional house from the 19th century. It is owned by a couple of Anastasios and Marouko Patera. In there the Maritime Museum of Chios which was donated in 1991 is housed. Chios is well-known for its large maritime history, countless sailers and ship owners are original from Chios. The museum shows this part of Chios’ history with remarkable collections of the exhibits, portraits of sailing ships and steam boats, photographs and models of ships from the naval life and navigation equipment complete the impressive collection. In the courtyard of the museum there is a monument dedicated to the lost sailors of the island.
